How it Works

making time for you

I take time with you to get to know your unique inner world and life circumstances. After taking a detailed assessment, examining all contributing factors (biological, psychological, social, and lifestyle), we collaborate on a treatment plan that is suited to your individual needs. Each person is unique and complex; therefore, we will meet more frequently in the beginning for me to get to know you. As our work progresses, I will be continuously refining and optimizing your treatment plan. I limit the number of patients in my practice and provide longer follow-up appointments, which allows me to provide a high level of attention to each person.

treating the whole person: Looking beyond medications

While medications can provide symptom relief, they may not always address the needs of the whole person. I offer a variety of treatment options to minimize the use of pharmacology and to harness the mind’s innate ability to heal, including psychotherapy, the use of natural herbs and supplements, mindfulness practices, lifestyle modifications, journaling, and other creative therapies. Plant-based medicines and nutritional supplements can improve mood and alleviate stress, and can be used alone or in conjunction with conventional medications. If you’re already on a supplement regimen, I can help you optimize your regimen and make sure there are no dangerous interactions between your supplements and medications. When it is safe and clinically indicated, I can also help you come off of your psychiatric medications or reduce the dosage of your medicines.

exploring deeply

Together, we will explore and analyze your history, dreams, relationships, and inner experiences with open curiosity and compassion, looking for underlying causes of your suffering to help you understand and master troublesome patterns in your life. By getting to the root of these issues, you can create long-lasting and profound changes. Frequency of appointments can range from several times per week to every 3 months, depending on how you are doing and what you need. For psychotherapy, sessions are usually once a week to every other week for 50 minutes. The duration of psychotherapy can be either short-term or long-term depending on your treatment goals.

Employing a culturally and racially sensitive lens

My Chinese-American background allows me to have a deeper understanding of both western and eastern cultures which makes me more attuned to the nuances and rich context of cultural and racial diversity. Recognizing that ideas of health, well-being, and social connectedness vary from culture to culture, I am not strictly confined to the western medical model of illness in my practice. I strive to provide compassionate care that takes into account your unique background and cultural values. I have experience working with diverse patients from different backgrounds; I strive to create a safe space for addressing and exploring issues of culture, race, gender, sexuality, intersectionality, and non-traditional relationship paradigms.

INSURANCE

I am an out-of-network provider and I do not take insurance. However, I make the reimbursement process as simple as possible by providing all the necessary paperwork in a timely fashion. It is recommended that you contact your insurance provider in advance to determine level of coverage.

I am not enrolled as a Medicare provider so Medicare will not reimburse any part of the treatment fees associated with my services. If you have Medicare, you must sign an agreement that states you will not submit claims to Medicare.
